Back To Work

Initiative Program

12-week program: Rebuilding Confidence. Restoring Opportunity. Reconnecting Women to Work

Returning to work after time away can be challenging. Mothers may face gaps in employment, outdated skills, reduced confidence, limited professional networks, changing workplace expectations, and the challenge of balancing work with family responsibilities.

The Momslikeme Back to Work Initiative helps mothers confidently reconnect with the workforce, strengthen their skills, rebuild professional networks, and access pathways to meaningful employment, entrepreneurship, and economic participation.

Our Goal

To support mothers who are returning to work or exploring new employment opportunities by providing practical skills, career development, mentorship, networking, and connections to employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

THE NEED

Many mothers step away from paid employment to care for children or manage family responsibilities. When they are ready to return, the transition can present significant barriers.

These may include:

  • Employment gaps and concerns about returning to the workforce
  • Changes in technology, workplace practices, and industry expectations
  • Limited access to current professional networks
  • Reduced confidence in professional skills
  • Challenges communicating transferable skills gained through caregiving and life experience
  • Limited access to mentors and career support
  • Balancing employment with family responsibilities
  • Exploring entrepreneurship when traditional employment may not fit their circumstances

The Back to Work Initiative addresses these barriers through an integrated approach that combines skills development, confidence building, career navigation, mentorship, networking, and opportunity connections.

PROGRAM PILLARS

CAREER READINESS

Practical tools and resources to help participants prepare for today’s workforce.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Opportunities to strengthen digital, professional, communication, and workplace skills.

CONFIDENCE & WELL-BEING

Support that recognizes the personal transition involved in returning to work and helps participants move forward with confidence.

MENTORSHIP

Connections with professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who can provide guidance and perspective.

NETWORKING

Creating meaningful opportunities for participants to build relationships and reconnect with professional communities.

EMPLOYMENT & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Connecting participants with pathways to employment, self-employment, business development, and other economic opportunities.

FROM CAREGIVING TO CAREER

Motherhood develops skills that are valuable in the workplace. The program helps participants recognize and articulate transferable skills such as: Leadership | Organization | Problem Solving | Communication | Negotiation | Adaptability | Time Management | Budget Management | Resilience | Collaboration

Rather than viewing a career break only as a gap, we help mothers identify the experiences, capabilities, and strengths they have developed along the way—and learn how to communicate that value professionally.

EMPLOYER & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

The Back to Work Initiative creates opportunities for employers, organizations, training providers, community agencies, and professionals to contribute to women’s economic participation.

Potential partnerships may include:

  • Employer information sessions
  • Job and opportunity connections
  • Mentorship
  • Skills workshops
  • Professional development
  • Workplace readiness sessions
  • Recruitment partnerships
  • Industry panels
  • Training and certification pathways
  • Internship or work-experience opportunities
  • Sponsorship and program support

Together, we can create stronger pathways between mothers and opportunity.

MEASURING IMPACT

The Momslikeme Back to Work Initiative will use measurable outcomes to understand participant progress and program effectiveness.

Potential indicators include:

  • Number of mothers participating
  • Completion and engagement rates
  • Skills and confidence improvements
  • Resumes/professional profiles developed or updated
  • Interviews secured
  • Employment opportunities pursued
  • Employment placements or transitions
  • Training or certification completed
  • Mentorship connections established
  • Professional networks expanded
  • Businesses launched or restarted
  • Employer and community partnerships established

Participant feedback and pre/post-program assessments will help measure changes in confidence, career readiness, skills, and employment preparedness.

OUR VISION

We envision a future where motherhood is not a barrier to economic opportunity.

The Momslikeme Back to Work Initiative is creating pathways for mothers to return, restart, reinvent, and rise—with the skills, confidence, connections, and opportunities needed to participate meaningfully in the economy.
